HANDMADE PERCUSSIONS

Steel Series - Boron Steel Engineering

Steel Series is not an industrial aesthetic. It is engineering applied to sound: automotive-grade materials, controlled processes, and a sound identity designed for live performance at high sound pressure.

Steel Series — Boron Steel Engineering

The Steel Series AluVibe was created by directly applying technologies derived from the advanced automotive industry to the world of percussion instrument making.

The shell is made of aluminized boron steel, which belongs to the family of high-strength steels developed by ArcelorMittal for the hot forging of structural and safety components.

Once subjected to controlled heat treatment, these materials reach mechanical strengths in the range of 1500–2000 MPa, values up to five times higher than those of traditional structural steels.

Extreme rigidity, controlled vibrations

It is the same technology used for uprights, anti-intrusion reinforcements, and crash-critical components in the automotive sector.

Applied to a snare drum, this technical choice produces a clear result: a shell that is only 3 mm thick offers a hardness and rigidity comparable to a conventional shell that is up to five times thicker, with an immediate advantage in terms of vibration control, dynamic response, and overall weight.

The reduction in mass allows the shaft to react more quickly to the energy imparted by the stroke, resulting in an immediate attack, a marked frontal projection, and an extremely stable string tension even under high stress.

Die-cast hardware and forged hoops

The entire hardware is made of die-cast aluminum, designed in-house to ensure rigidity, dimensional precision, and structural continuity with the shell.

The AluVibe hoops, also made in-house, are forged starting from boron steel raised to 960 °C, the temperature at which the material offers the best compromise between formability, strength, and controlled elasticity.

Oxidation protection and premium finishes

The problem with steel is oxidation: for this reason, the material's coating is a fundamental technical aspect.

AluVibe uses various solutions to protect the drum and ensure stability over time, even in intensive use.

Cataphoresis: an industrial protective treatment that deposits a uniform coating on the drum through an electrochemical process. It is used to create a uniform anti-corrosion base that is effective even in critical and hard-to-reach areas, improving durability over time.

Copper, nickel, or chrome plating: further solutions applied to steel shells that, besides guaranteeing protection from oxidation, also serve as premium aesthetic finishes.

Sound identity

The end result is an instrument with a clear sonic identity: powerful but intelligible, aggressive but manageable, designed for high-pressure live sound situations where reliability, consistency, and character are not optional.

Steel Series: where the structural integrity of steel becomes pure acoustic expression.
